Naturalization Attorney
What Do I Need To Do To Apply For U.S. Citizenship?
After holding a green card, which grants lawful permanent resident status, for five years or more, many individuals find themselves eligible to apply for United States citizenship through the naturalization process. In an expedited route, those who are married to a U.S. citizen may qualify for naturalization after only three years of residency. Beyond just meeting the residency requirement, applicants must also satisfy a number of additional criteria, including demonstrating continuous residence in the U.S., exhibiting good moral character, and possessing basic knowledge of the English language, U.S. history, and the framework of the U.S. government.
Achieving successful naturalization is a significant milestone; it bestows nearly all the same rights and responsibilities that are afforded to citizens who are born in the United States, transforming the lives of many permanent residents into those of full participants in the American democratic process.

What Will Happen at My Interview?
You’ll need to bring your green card and a state ID or driver’s license to your interview so the officer can verify your identity. During the interview, a USCIS officer will review the answers you provided on your N-400 application. As they go through each section, you’ll be asked to confirm that the information is still accurate. If anything has changed since you filed your application, you must explain those changes and provide documentation if needed.
The officer will also ask you a series of questions similar to those asked during your green card interview. You will be asked to read one sentence in English and write a sentence that the officer dictates. After that, you’ll take a civics test consisting of ten questions about U.S. history and government. If you answer six correctly, you pass.
Although the process may seem intimidating, proper preparation can make it much more manageable. Andrew Driggs helps clients understand what to expect during the interview so they can feel calm, confident, and ready for each step.
